The Oresund Bridge, connecting Denmark and Sweden and familiar to both travelers and TV viewers of The Bridge, is about to get a new paint job that will take over 15 years to complete.
The bridge, which opened in 2000 and connects Copenhagen to Malmo, still has its original 5 coats of paint, including touch-ups, but the wear of constant traffic and constant wind mean it's time for new. In this case, new means covering 300,000 square meters with two new layers of paint.
It's the first time the bridge has been painted outdoors; the original coats were applied indoors as the sections were fabricated and then moved to the sound to be connected into a bridge.
Work on painting the 8 km long bridge starts next year and will run through 2032...by which time it will probably be ready for another. For more details from TheLocal.dk, click HERE
