For the first time in the nearly 120-year history of the Tour de France bicycle race, the finish is temporarily moving out of the Paris area for a finish in Nice in 2024 due to the Olympics in Paris. The 2024 race will end in Nice, on the Riviera.
While in recent years the start of the Tour has been moved around France and other European countries, it's been in Paris since 1905. Even before that, the first two races, in 1903 and 1904 ended just outside the city.
Tour Director Christian Prudhome told Agencie France Presse that “Nice is a city that shines, it’s known around the world. There is the beauty of the setting and the mountains nearby. The city offers an exceptional setting and a great course.”
Despite those attractions, the race will return to Paris in 2025, in time for the 50th anniversary of the Champs-Élysées as the Paris site for the final leg.
