NYC gets a new view with an edge

New York City is about to get a new observation deck, higher than the Empire State Building, and edgier than the one at the World Trade Center, which is taller. In fact, it's called The Edge, and will open in March at 30 Hudson Yards, soon to be New York's second-tallest building.

Unlike other decks that are built in or around a tower, The Edge sticks out into space on a giant cantilever that will give it open-air view, and without the glass that too often puts reflections into visitor photos. At The Edge, the glass will be confined to an area of floor, giving a straight view down to street level.

If looking straight down from 1100 feet up gives you cold feet (it certainly has that effect on me!), there's a Champagne and cocktail bar in the works to either complete the effect or give visitors courage. On the other hand, with tickets for the deck, already on sale, pricied at $38, you can imagine the cocktail prices.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
