Now Google maps pandemic alerts

Google is rolling out an update to Google Maps that will alert travelers to Covid-19 related border restrictions, travel rules, and places where crowds are expected.

The feature, which is rolling out as information becomes available, will first cover transit alerts in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Britain, Colombia, France, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Thailand and the U.S., using information from local transit agencies.

The new transit info builds on Maps previous ability to predict crowded times at stations. Other information will include whether masks are required and whether limited schedules are in effect.

For drivers, there will be information on border restrictions, Covid-19 checkpoints and route restrictions—especially important in cities that have temporarily or permanently implemented new bike, bus and pedestrian-reserved spaces on roadways.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
