Now, airline food without a flight!

Food so good you'd want it even if you didn't have to eat it: That's the premise for AirAsia, which has just opened a shopping-mall location serving its inflight cuisine without the flight or the trip to the airport.

The Malaysian discount carrier's first Santan restaurant opened last week in the Mid Valley shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, and will open five more by the end of 2020, locating them largely in food courts where American-style fast food, such as McDonald's is already drawing big crowds.

Beyond that, the company's dream is to franchise the brand, and have over 100 locations within 3 to 5 years, targeting locations around the world, focusing on high-traffic locations for fast food, including food courts and...wait for it...airports.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
