North Korea railroads may get new connection

Put two topics in the news lately together—North Korea and record-length trips—and you get an unusual news story: North Korea's railroads are opening  up new possibilities for travelers from outside the country.

The route from a junction with Russia's Trans-Siberian railroad to Pyongyang has been open for several years, but only in the last year has it been possible for non-Koreans to ride the line.

There are four trains a month from Moscow to the border; twice a month a train with sleeping cars runs from Pyongyang to Moscow, taking over 200 hours. Now that North and South Korea have been talking more, some are hoping that a Seoul-Pyongyang-Moscow route could be in the near future.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
