New York's Lincoln Center going green

New York City's biggest performing arts center is about to get a major makeover of the plaza that joins its three main halls, with concrete giving way to (artificial) grass. The new feature is named, aptly, 'The Green.'

The new lawn, designed by Toni Award-winning set designer Mimi Lien, will be both an outdoor space for public relaxation, increasingly important during the pandemic, and a venue for outdoor performances by the Center's resident organizations, including the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic. The center's theaters have not yet re-opened from their pandemic closure.

Visitors to the 14,000-square-foot space will also have access to a snack bar and a circulating library.
