Some of America's 'worst airports' are making real comebacks, including New York's Laguardia and now, New Orleans' Louis Armstrong International Airport, which opened its long-awaited new terminal last week.
The $1.3 billion terminal completely replaces a 50-year-old structure that was ranked as one of the country's ten worst. Last year the airport saw 12 million passengers; the largest carriers at the airport are Southwest, Delta and American.
Among the new features are wider-than-usual drop-off lanes to speed traffic through the airport, a central area for security screening with dedicated lanes for PreCheck and Clear, an advanced automated bag-handling system, and a slew of new parking garages and lots. Inside, there are more amenities, more spaces, chargers at seats and even a post-security pet-relief area.
