Broadway—shorthand for New York's Theater District and theater industry—now has a museum dedicated to its history and culture, located in the heart of the district, just off Times Square.
The museum, which opened November 15, covers more than 300 years of New York's theater history and its influence on the city. It was originally scheduled to open in 2020, but had to wait out the pandemic. Exhibits showcase costumes, props, rare photos, videos, and more from shows such as Phantom of The Opera, The Lion King, HAIR, The Ziegfeld Follies, Show Boat, Oklahoma!, The Wiz, and Rent.
Founded by Tony award-winning producer Julie Boardman and a marketing entrepreneur, Dana Nicoletti, the museum's collaborating partners include Playbill, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Theatre Division of the New York Public Library and the Al Hirschfeld Foundation.
The museum is at 145 West 45th Street, and is open daily 10 am to 10 pm. Adult tickets start at $39, with a portion going to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
