New coaster keeps up the thrill race

Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia, has debuted a new roller coaster, named Twisted Timbers, that—at least for some of us—should carry a warning against riding on a full stomach. Or maybe riding at all.

It's one of a new generation of roller coasters that combine traditional wood construction, steel rails and other features along with speed and electronic controls to up the scary just a bit more. And new ones seem to appear with astonishing regularity.

This one features, among other things, more than a half mile of track twisted into unlikely directions, including a 109 foot tall 'barrel roll drop' and cars that get up to 54 miles an hour as they pass through three loops, three overbanked turns and 20 'airtime moments.' Yes, they said that 'airtime moments.'

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
