Dutch national rail operator NS has accepted an ombudsman's decision that it must provide toilet facilities on all trains and stations.
Ombudsman Annemarie den Toom said the railroad must include short-haul regional trains and small stations. She told the newspaper Telegraaf "The elderly and disabled in particular are duped if they can’t get to a toilet in time. If you have to go, you have to go." Traveler organization Rover pointed out that on the road, there's always a place to pull off, but not on trains.
An NS spokesperson told the paper that "We agree with the people who have criticised the NS and will try and solve the problem, both in trains and at stations. All new trains have toilets and we will find solutions for the stations."
