Mystery mural in Spain: Could it be Banksy?

A Spanish town that left a lure for the mysterious and anonymous Banksy is now wondering if he really took the bait. Banksy or not, the town now has a new mural of two Civil Guardists kissing.

Ferrol de Coruña, in Galicia, left a number of walls blank during a renewal project last fall for urban artists to decorate. One was marked "Reserved for Banksy," and the organizer of the exhibit, Eduardo Hermida, e-mailed the map coordinates to an email address he found on Banksy's official website.

But still, no one knows if it was Banksy or an imitator; it's signed as his would be, but so far there's no mention on the Instagram account the artist often uses to identify his work. It's quite similar in composition and subject to a known Banksy, of two British policemen kissing, that appeared on a pub in Brighton in 2004 and later sold for over $500,000.

Hermida says “We just don’t know if the work which has appeared in the reserved space is original or not. But if it is an imitator, it will be the work of someone inspired by the technique of the great one.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
