Newswriters are often enough flooded with press releases, each trumpeting its own importance that most just get tossed. Every now and then, though, one makes a real impression, and not necessarily the way its authors intended.
Here's the dope from one of those; up to you to decide if this is pure genius or your laugh for the day.
A start-up called Sovereign Drinkware has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $20,000 to start manufacturing the brightly-colored cups above, each of which features a removable chargeable base, a battery essentially, that can charge your phones and other devices while you drink your coffee. As of this writing, they've got $205 in pledges; the site says production will only start if they raise the whole $20,000 they are asking for.
The inventor offers two reasons you should want the cup: "I can charge myself with caffeine while I charge my electronic devices with electricity" and it avoids the dangers of using public charges at airports, where data thieves might have access.
