Mt Everest just got taller!

Everyone agrees that Mt Everest is the world's tallest mountain, but until last Tuesday, there were conflicting views of just how tall. China and Nepal have now resolved their differences and agreed a new official height.

And that height is taller than either country had previously credited the peak with: it is now officially 8,848.86 meters, about 29,032 feet high.

China previously had not included the snow cap at the peak, and called it short at 8,844.43 meters, or 29,017 feet. Nepal had said the mountain was 8,848 meters, about 29,029 feet. And both countries had speculated that a 2015 earthquake might have shortened it a bit.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
