Did you ever think you would eat ice cream out of a miniature squat toilet? Or that someone would come up with that concept?
This phenomena was first introduced in Taipei, Taiwan in the early 2000s when it was a unique idea for an ice cream store. It was an idea born from reading the Japanese comic Dr Slump in the issue "Dr Slump on the toilet." It eventually became a full fledged restaurant called Modern Toilet Restauarnt in 2004 where even the food, drinks and seating were toilet inspired.
When the first restaurant opened, locals were curious as to what the store was about given all the toilet seating and decor. Today the concept has taken off and become so popular that it is a chain of restaurants all over Taiwan. Even this dessert is translated to "the constipated one."
Foreigners however continue to be confused by the concept. Would you eat or drink out of a miniature toilet bowl while sitting on a toilet?
