When this public fountain was erected in 1881 it was surrounded by sand and a hundred fishing boats. It stands at the north end of 12 miles of continuous dockland. It provides clean, safe drinking water from Lake Vyrnwy - in the North Wales Mountains, 80 miles away. For fishermen and travellers. A reminder of something we take for granted today. It now stands in an expensive leafy suburb overlooking the River Mersey as it flows into the Irish Sea.
