Trujillo Peru was home to a large city of Moche people from 100 - 900 AD. During that time they built two large temples - one to the sun and one to the moon. The Temple to the Moon (Huaca de la Luna) is being excavated and you can see how well it has been preserved.

There are two reasons for the preservation - The Moche people buried the temples before they left the area, and this is an extremely arid climate.
