Masks are back for Australia cruises

While cruise lines in most parts of the world are dropping all their mask, test and vaccine requirements, three major cruise lines, all owned by Carnival, are bringing them back for cruises operating from Australia.

The move by Carnival, Princess and Holland America came in the wake of a recent Majestic Princess cruise that returned to Sydney with over 800 cases of Covid aboard, about 20% of the passengers and crew on board, although nearly all the cases were either asymptomatic or 'mild.'

The new rules require vaccination for anyone over 12, a test before boarding, and wearing of masks indoors except when eating or drinking. Masks must also be worn when outside where social distancing isn't possible, including transfers on tenders or buses and during embarkation and disembarkation.

Australia has seen a recent sharp rise in infections, with a seven-day average of cases jumping from about 9,000 on Nov. 10 to 14,000 a week later.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
