Luxury lounge access—$150 per person

American Airlines is re-opening its top-tier elite Flagship lounges, and it's now willing to let (some of) the masses in, but at a steep price: $150 per person. For some, that may be close to the price of the ticket they're flying on.

The lounges, a step up from American's lower-tier elite Admiral's Club lounges, have previously been only for top-tier elites or for travelers on first-class tickets. It doesn't even sell annual memberships, unlike Admiral's Club.

The Flagship lounges feature elevated food choices, premium soaps and a relatively uncrowded space; to keep that, people who want to buy a pass will have to do so on the spot and will be turned down if there's not enough space. Oh, and the day pass masses won't be invited to the top table, Flagship First dining, which is only for passengers in Flagship First seats on the plane.

The Flagship lounges, which are in New York JFK, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas/FortWorth and Miami, have been closed during the pandemic but are now re-opening. A new one will open soon in Philadelphia.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
