Hoping to woo back potential travelers who are worried about being stranded somewhere either due to illness or quarantine or changing rules, Lufthansa's tickets now come with a guarantee that they'll get you home no matter what.
The guarantee, which applies to tickets sold from now through August 31, for travel through January, applies to Lufthansa, Austrian and Swiss airlines, and guarantees return to those countries It doesn't apply to flights to those countries originating outside Europe.
Travelers in the lower classes (Economy and Business Saver) have the "general return flight guarantee" that will get them home, even if it requires a special flight. If they're part of a Lufthansa "all-round carefree package, the airline will also cover passengers who are barred from their destination by Covid-19 symptoms or testing for the costs of their medical care and quarantine or medical transport home, as well as refunds for unused hotel reservations and tours. Premium class passengers also get a "Bring me home now" option, allowing them to cut short a trip and leave at any time.
No word yet on other airlines adopting similar policies.
