Lufthansa joins the A380 revival

Lufthansa has joined the unexpected parade of airlines pulling retired A380s back into service, with eight of its original fourteen scheduled to see service in the next year. The other six have been sold.

Qantas and Singapore have also made similar moves, with 106 A380s now listed as active, including the large fleet at Emirates. Most airlines dropped the model at the beginning of the pandemic when traffic was low, and had no plans to use it again because of its high operating cost.

What has made the difference is two factors: Rapid revival of air traffic requiring more seats, and long delays in delivery of new planes, especially the Boeing 777x and even 787s

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
