LAX cancels taxi, Uber curbside pickups

Getting to Los Angeles International Airport has always been a bit difficult, with crowded roadways and multiple terminals, but getting out is now about to get even harder, at least for the foreseeable future, as the airport bans curbside pickups by taxis and app cars such as Uber and Lyft, starting Oct. 29.

Instead, passengers will be directed to a free shuttle to a lot where they can be picked up. The lot, dubbed LAX-it, is located near Terminal 1, and will provide amenities such as food trucks, charging stations and restrooms for those who, presumably, are waiting for their rides.

In theory, the move is temporary, until the airport's new people-mover system is finished in 2023, but it might become permanent. Airport officials point out that the two-step departure from the airport may not actually take more time when you add in the time your taxi won't spend circling in front of the terminals.

On the departure level, direct dropoffs will still be permitted.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
