Las Vegas tweaks its famous slogan

It's still "Fabulous Las Vegas," but it's taking a small walk away from its famous and suggestive "what happens here, stays here" slogan with an update that emphasizes the city's uniqueness.

The new slogan riffs on the old one, so it will undoubtedly stay in many people's minds just as old Alka-Seltzer ads do. So, make way for "What Happens Here, Only Happens Here."

Like the old slogan, the new one is the work of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Authority. While the old slogan, first used in 2003, was meant to suggest that Vegas was more than gambling, and featured restaurants, shopping and a little hint of the prurient, the new one emphasizes unique features including 'residencies' by numbers of top artists at hotel showrooms.

One reason for a change of slogan: tourism in the city has been leveling off, if only slightly. The peak year was 2016, with 42.9 million visitors, with 42.2 in 2017, 42.1 in 2018. With casino gambling available in many more places around the country, Las Vegas again feels the need to remind that it's more than that.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
