JetBlue to be first with free WiFi on all flights

JetBlue has announced it intends to upgrade the WiFi on all its planes, and make it a free amenity for passengers...an industry first. The service, called FlyFi by the airline, will offer broadband speeds sufficient for streaming.

Streaming media in place of or alongside traditional inflight entertainment systems is a hot topic in the airline world these days, with airlines and content providers allying to gain market. Virgin America recently announced an alliance with Netflix, and JetBlue is already partnering with Amazon to allow streaming of Amazon's videos.

The FlyFi service is already available on JetBlue's fleet of Airbus planes, and will extend by the end of next year to its Embraer regional jets as well.
