JetBlue ramps up 'germ warfare'

JetBlue is joining the line-up of airlines teaming up with tech and medical support to assure its passengers they're getting on a thoroughly-cleaned plane.

JetBlue's partner is Honeywell, which is marketing an ultraviolet rapid cleaning system mounted in a beverage-cart-sized chassis that can roll down the aisle of a plane and disinfect it in about ten minutes including seats, lavatories and galleys. Originally it was marketed as the GermFalcon, but now it just goes by Honeywell UV Cabin System.

United was one of the first airlines to sign up with partners, working with Clorox and the Cleveland Clinic. American has partners to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Delta has just signed an agreement with Lysol.

JetBlue now has eight of the GermFalcon units and will be giving them at least 90 days of trial at its New York/JFK and Fort Lauderdale hubs.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
