JetBlue, which hasn't served Atlanta since 2003, has returned with 5 daily round-trips to Boston—but the airline and the airport have disagreements that could affect future expansion.
The airline's operations at Atlanta are split between 2 concourses, a difficult situation for an airline with a small operation at the world's busiest airport. JetBlue nearly cancelled the plan over the issue.
JetBlue, founded in 2000, included Atlanta-to-California in its early route plan, but pulled out when it found itself caught in a price war between Delta and AirTran.
JetBlue hasn't announced plans to add more destinations from Atlanta, and the concourse issue is at the heart of that; the airline has complained to the FAA. So, the question of future expansion is on hold; a JetBlue spokesman told Atlanta newspapers that “We’re not ready to take the second step into phase two. It’s not clear where the airport would even put us right now.”
