Japan travel agency turns to farming

A major Japanese travel agency, hard hit by the pandemic, is turning to agriculture to refill its coffers, and also to offer 'farmland experience' tours that will allow visitors hands-on experience in its fields.

H.I.S. set up its H.I.S. Farmers subsidiary last month, as it buys tracts of farmland, some previously abandoned. It's already producing cherry tomatoes for market, and has bought land for a grapefruit farm where it hopes to work with local farmers to make products from the juice.

It also plans to sell its farm products at the Huis Ten Bosch amusement park it operates near Nagasaki.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
