Japan: Out with old tech on bullet trains!

Japanese railroads are removing payphones from all of their 'shinkansen' bullet trains; the last will be gone by early summer.

According to Japan Today, the five companies that operate the Japan Railways high-speed network want to save the expense of maintaining a system that almost no one is using, because nearly every Japanese adult, even seniors, has a cellphone now.

Adding to the decision: tunnel renovations last year removed the last 'dead zones' for cell service on the bullet-train network; as long as customers keep their phones charged, they will be able to stay in touch.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
