In Uzbekistan,the Airline Weighs You

Sounds like a late April Fools joke or a Yakov Smirnoff joke from the 80's, but its not. Uzbekistan Airways will soon start weighing passengers prior to departure. They made the following statement recently:

"According to the rules of International Air Transport Association (IATA), airlines are obliged to carry out the regular procedures of preflight control passengers weighing with hand baggage to observe requirements for ensuring flight safety,"   They also guaranteed confidentiality after weighing people. Chris Goater an IATA spokesperson, however, told CNN  that the IATA  isn't aware of any such rule concerning the weighing of passengers and their hand luggage prior to flight,"

Another airline, Samoa actually charges the passenger by how much they weigh and they've been doing it since 2012.
