We occasionally offer a rundown of less-known (perhaps for good reason) museums in various parts of the world, often leaving readers with the question "Really? There's a museum for that?" Here are some unusual ones in the UK, and a link to more.
As the title image suggests, there is a British Lawnmower Museum, located in Southport. For those of you who might wonder, it starts from the invention of the modern lawnmower in 1820 by Edward Beard Budding, and goes on up to today's robot machines. If lawnmowers seem to slow, there's always the Pendine Museum of Speed, Carmarthenshire, located at Pendine Beach, scene of early speed tests for cars, a number of which are on display.
Keswick has the Derwent Pencil Museum, entered through a replica of a graphite mine, and containing what is claimed to be the world's largest pencil, at nearly 8 metres and 450 kilos. That, obviously, can't hold a candle to the exhibits at the Scottish Lighthouse Museum in Fraserburgh, located in the first-ever lighthouse built in Scotland.
