Iceland: New way to get in hot water

Visitors to Iceland will soon find they have a new way to get into hot water, with the planned opening of a new geothermal lagoon with an infinity edge that will give bathers the illusion that they are in the ocean itself.

Located along the oceanfront in Kopavogur, minutes away from the center of Reykjavik, the facility, dubbed Sky Lagoon by the joint venture that will operate it, will compete with the famous Blue Lagoon, located near the Keflavik Airport, 45 miles west of the city.

Iceland sits on a pool of water heated by volcanic processes far below the surface; the heated water and energy generated by it heat many of the country's homes and provide much of its power supply.

The new lagoon's facilities will include an in-the-water bar, as well as restaurants and shops. It's scheduled to open next spring.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
