It had been a long day driving from Abilene, Texas, to White Sands National Park and Las Cruces, New Mexico. More than eight hours of interstate and secondary roads.
My trusty GPS brought me to Hotel Encanto De Las Cruces, a beautiful hotel with Spanish and Mexican Colonial decor. From the doorman who offered me water as soon as I got out of my car to check into the hotel to another employee helping me with my luggage, I was immediately impressed.
The sprawling lobby was cool on this blisteringly hot day with its wrought iron accents and tile floors.
The hotel, located near attractions, restaurants, and shopping, offers luxurious accommodations and amenities, including an on-site restaurant and bar and an outdoor swimming pool. My room was a junior suite and featured local artwork and separate living space and bedroom. Guests can choose from mountain or city views.

The Farmers & Crafts Markets features hundreds of vendors selling locally made food, crafts, and produce. New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum is on the outskirts of town, a sprawling museum with indoor and outdoor exhibits, including small herds of traditional New Mexico livestock. And nearby Historic Mesilla is a rich cultural destination featuring festivals, shopping, and dining.
Las Cruces is a beautiful destination with many great attractions, and Hotel Encanto is the perfect place to stay.
