Hosoya Sandwich, Sendai, Japan (Where Gumbo was #302)

Hosoya Sandwich, founded in 1950, is one of the oldest hamburger restaurants in Japan. It's in the entertainment district of Kokubuncho, which is 10 to 15 minute from Sendai Station.

Congratulations to George G for finding Gumbo at Hosoya.

“Mr. Dandy”, a mechanical doll, holds a sign that tells about the restaurant. It's not working now and looks a little creepy but was a favorite doll of the founder.

The founder was also an avid golfer and golf memorabilia is all around. The restaurant is run by his son now.

After World War II, during  the occupation, Americans brought their love of hamburgers over to Japan, which Japanese chefs copied and modified. Hosoya Sandwich, sold over one million burgers, and is still going strong.
