Home-town Heroine: Maureen O'Hara museum

Irish actress and Hollywood icon now has a new claim to fame: A museum in her Irish hometown, Limerick, dedicated to her life and career.

For a start, it's actually two rooms set aside at the Foynes Flying Boat and Maritime Museum, with plans for a new extension to house a bigger collection. For now, the exhibition includes costumes, accessories, 'red carpet' outfits and correspondence with entertainment and political leaders, her Oscar and personal memorabilia, along with a 6-minute introductory video.

It's almost a homecoming: In 1989, O'Hara, seen above with John Wayne, cut the ribbon to open the museum, located where flying boats of the 1930s and 40s landed after trans-Atlantic trips. The museum is partly based on collections started by her husband, a pilot and airline executive.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
