Historic New Orleans adds new space

The Historic New Orleans Collection, which is both a museum and a research center, is adding a third building in its French Quarter home town.

The $38 million new campus, which connects a historic facade on Royal Street to a new 36,000-sq-ft building behind, will house a permanent exhibit on the history of the French Quarter as well as changing exhibitions, hands-on education space and a fully-restored Aeolian pipe organ. Not to mention a large gift shop and cafe.

The first temporary exhibit will be a look at NOLA-focused contemporary art, "Art of the City: Postmodern to Post-Katrina." The center's other campuses feature exhibits on Louisiana history and a research center. Admission to all three is free.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
