High water, weather disrupt European river cruises

High water levels from heavy rainfall and spring snowmelt in the Alps has caused delays and changes in river cruises, including those on the Seine, Rhine and Danube. While serious, it's not as bad as the spring of 2013 when many port towns were flooded. The picture above, at Bonn, Germany in 2013, shows the stone piers of the bridge under water.

Cruise operators are taking a variety of strategies, including changing stopovers to different ports, delaying departures, and in some cases sending the boats on ahead to the next port with the passengers going by bus. In some cases of extended port stays, the operators are providing additional shore tours.
