Heavy traffic keeps TSA busy

If you've noticed a lot of company as you pass through airports these days, it's not your imagination. Lots of people are flying, and TSA is seeing record numbers in some areas.

Last Thursday, for example, pre-Easter travelers passing through two of New York's airports set record one-day numbers for passengers cleared—59,698 at LaGuardia and 78,811 at Newark Liberty. The LGA record beat the old one by about 1,000 and EWR's new record-setter added 2,000 to the previous best.

In both cases, about a third of the business was between 4 am and 9 am as passengers left on flights that would give them daytime on arrival. Despite the volume, TSA says, new methods and equipment held down the waiting time, with a longest-wait of 27 minutes and an overall average of 12.

With summer travel season starting soon, expect more records to fall!

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
