Heat wave leads Swiss to cut bus/train fares

With temperatures still high and ozone pollution levels rising, Swiss authorities have moved to encourage weekend travelers to leave their cars at home by temporarily cutting train and bus fares.

In Geneva, all forms of transit will continue at reduced rates until ozone returns to normal. Other cantons and cities are following suit in various forms. Geneva's discount is 1/3 off the usual 3-franc fare.

The big concern is that high ozone levels can cause constricted or irritated airways, provoke asthma attacks and more. Authorities also warned against sports and heavy physical activity outdoors while levels are high. And oh yes...no smoking!

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
