Happy Birthday, Yellowstone National Park

March 1 this year will mark the 150th anniversary of the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act, which created Yellowstone as America's first National Park and still one of its largest and most-visited.

The anniversary year will be marked by a number of celebration events and completion of several major road and renovation projects funded by the Great American Outdoors Act, passed in 2020. May 6, at the beginning of the summer season will see a major public celebration.

The anniversary year is also bringing a new focus on the human life of the Yellowstone area, with a number of initiatives to examine and explore the history of the native American tribes who have lived in the area for hundreds of years. Tribal nations are organizing many of those events, under the umbrella of Project Indigenous.
