Halloween warning: Airbnb's scariest listings

If you've ever heard a horror story about an overnight stay, or just want to live one yourself for Halloween, Airbnb apparently has a full supply of haunted houses and rooms to rent.

That includes the one above, in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was once voted the most mysterious house in town, and comes with a Doberman as a guard dog. And there's Captain Grant's in Connecticut. It's been there since the Revolution, and housed escaped slaves during the Civil War. Guests have reported seeing Colonial-clad figures and TVs that turn themselves on and off.

There are many more, including at least two haunted houses in New Orleans, both of which have also served as movie scenes. Best book early, and bring your own nightlights! On the other hand, it's advisable NOT to book at the Hotel California, where 'You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!'

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
