Gumbo's Pic of the Day. September 10, 2013: African Penguins, Boulders Beach, South Africa.

Cape Point is a peninsula extending south of Cape Town, ending in the Cape of Good Hope (where old mariners from Europe used to take a sharp left as they headed to the Far East).  On the shores of this peninsula is a small town where you have the chance to see a large breeding colony of jackass (African) penguins.  These penguins settled here in the early 1980's and have thrived.  We enjoyed our time studying these playful and photogenic birds from the beach's boardwalk.

What do you think?  Should penguins become the mascot of Travel Gumbo?
