Gumbo's Pic of the Day, Mar. 23, 2014: Fountain, Plaza de Virgen de los Reyes, Seville

DSC00080This fearsome fountain sits in a square near the Cathedral, the Alcazar and other centers of traditional power in Seville, but it's a relatively recent addition. It was built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition.

And it's not alone: Seville's sister city, Kansas City, MO, has an identical twin, installed in the fountain-filled Plaza district to celebrate the connection.
