Gumbo's Pic of the Day, Mar 10, 2014: Fiori di Como, The Bellagio, Las Vegas

Chandelier at the Bellagio, Las Vegas 2

In a city famous for its glitz and glamour, the Bellagio resort stands out for its beautiful architecture and art.  Famous for its musical fountain show on the Strip and its wonderful Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, the Bellagio resort also has a noteworthy chandelier in its lobby that deserves close study.

Known as Fiori di Como, this beautiful glass sculpture was crafted by famous artisan, Dale Chihuly, whose studio is in Seattle.  Comprised of 2,000 hand -blown glass "blossoms", these colorful plates have been carefully arranged to form, this colorful three dimensional mosaic.  This work of art was installed in 1998.

You can see more of Mr. Chihuly's work on a prior blog post right here.

Well, when you're in Vegas for your anniversary sometime GarryRF, spring for the Bellagio for even just one night and let your beloved wife see the fountain show from that side of the street!

I enjoy Vegas in small snippets -- 2-3 days every few years is about perfect.  Great place to meet friends, eat well and enjoy a show.  Gamble if you want, though I find it too painful to have my wallet stripped that way.

I like to go there in the spring and fall so I can head into the surrounding desert for at least a half day and see some of the beautiful rock formations, like Valley of the Fire state park.  A wonderful place to be when the sun rises or sets and that soft light catches the red-orange rock and makes it seem to burn!  In the summer its just too hot for me.

After we've seen the show from the window of our hotel we have to go and watch it from the  street.  How do those ducks know when its time for the show ? I was so disappointed not to see one on top of a jet of water. Vegas is one of a few resorts where I can meet my son and his American family in the same hotel !

It's our anniversary in June but I'm being forced to visit Puerto Vallarta by she - "who must be obeyed" !
