Dritvik - Djupalonssandur is a beautiful and dramatic black sand and pebble beach with amazing volcanic rocks rising high above the ground.  Situated on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in the southwest of Iceland, and having the Snaefellsjokull Volcano as its backdrop (this volcano being one of the most famous sites of Iceland, primarily due to the novel Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne, in which the protagonists find the entrance to a passage leading to the center of the earth on SnæfellsjÖkull), Dritvik - Djupalonssandur is a great example of Iceland's beauty and dangers.

Snaefellsjokull Volcano (whose last eruption was approximately 200 AD) is an impressive sight.  One can only imagine the power of this volcano as you observe the lava flows which created the landscape around you.  As you look out over the mighty Atlantic Ocean, you can hear, see and feel its might as it crashes onto shore.  Then, as you walk further, you see proof of the Atlantic Oceans power, for there on the beach, lie the remains of a fishing vessel which was battered and sunk by the mighty Atlantic back on March 13, 1948.  The wreckage has been left there as a memorial to the crew who lost their lives on that fateful night.
