Gumbo's Pic of the Day, February 5th, 2015: River Conway, Wales UK

CIMG3001

This is the River Conway on the coast of North Wales. It has its source high in the snow capped mountains of the Snowdonia National Park.

Its entrance from the Irish Sea is protected by Conway Castle. The Kings of the middle ages were always fearful of an invasion from Europe landing here.

Today it makes a beautiful setting for the tourist to take photos and even spend time on the beach on a summer's day. It never freezes and makes a safe mooring for coastal boats.

Tourists - even English one's - are often amazed to find the locals speak the Welsh language here. Road signs and local services are displayed in both English and Welsh.
