Gumbo's Pic of the Day, March 22, 2014: Branch Bench, near Marlow, England.

Memorial benches are big in England.  You see them everywhere, in parks and alongside footpaths, and I’ve seriously considered leaving a bequest for one myself, to accommodate the bottoms of ramblers after I’m gone, with gratitude for the months of walking pleasure I’ve been afforded.

Bench

I’ve seen quite a few as I’ve puttered along through the English countryside, but this one is my all-time favorite, beside the Thames Path, not far from the upscale town of Marlow, west of London.  I don’t know who these ladies were, I assume they were ladies, try as I might to find a trace of them online, to no avail.  But I know I’m not the only one who will remember them fondly, whoever they were.

Tune in on Wednesday, if not before, for much more about the Thames Path and walking in England.
