Gumbo's Pic of the Day, April 18, 2014: Warehouses in Trondheim, Norway

On a bright, clear and freezing winter's morning we came across these intensely colourful converted harbourside merchant's warehouses as we made our way to Trondheim's magnificent Nidaros cathedral. The oldest of these warehouses, built along the River Nidelva, date back to the 18th century and have survived Swedish attacks back in 1658, when many of the wharves were damaged, and plans to pull them down in the 1930s. A little further upstream lies the beautiful "Gate of Fortune" - the Old Town Bridge which crosses the Nidelva river and leads into Bakklandet where the cathedral is located.
