Greece, which a year ago was losing tourist business because of fears of economic crisis, lack of cash in ATMs and possible disorder, is hoping to have a better time this year as crises in the Middle East kill tourism business there. Greece is expecting 25 million visitors this year, up from last year's 22 million.
Fears of civil war and terrorism in such areas as Tunisia and now Egypt, and even Turkey are affecting travelers' decisions, and this time around Greece is looking good. There's still an economic crisis, but no apparent scenario of imminent collapse or civil unrest, and the government is going out of its way to assure tourists, especially Britons, that not even increases in taxes will get in the way of their fun.
