Icelandic discount airline WOW is running a flash fare sale, offering seats from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Copenhagen, Bristol, England and Edinburgh, all with a stop in Rekyjavik. The fares are for flights from Jan. 15 to April 5.
Return fares are $129 to $199, but that still makes an extraordinarily cheap round trip if you can get it, and may trigger competing offers from other discounters, such as Norwegian, which is also known for sharp cuts to get started on routes.
The East Coast is not left entirely in the cold, either. WOW is offering fares from Boston and Miami to Iceland at $99, or for $129 from Boston/$149 from Miami for Paris, London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Frankfurt.
With these low fares, of course, expect to pay for checked bags, meals, etc.
WOW says the super-low fares are for a limited time, but the airline's CEO Skuli Mogensen told USA Today he aims to make similar super-low fares a regular thing. “I don’t want to introduce this as a sale. “It’s really setting the stage for what is coming.”
