Frontier's raising bag fees; will the other "low-costs" follow?

Frontier Airlines, which last year joined Spirit and Allegiant in the ULCC (ultra-low-cost-carrier) class that seems to mean ULC (ultra lots of charges) for most folks, is raising its fees for checked bags. The only checked bags that will not go up by $5 to $10 are those ordered and paid for while booking a ticket on the airline's web site.

If you check your bag while checking in online, the fee goes from $20 to $25, and at the airport from $25 to $30. Check it last-minute at the gate and it will cost $60! That's often enough to cancel the low-cost fare as a saving...especially if you have a credit card that gets your first bag on-board free with one of the legacy carriers.

Fees for carry-on bags—yes, the ULCCs charge for that, too—won't change just now, but at $30 for any bag that doesn't fit under the seat...well, it just piles on. DETAILS from USA Today.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
